Water is essential for life. Everything fades with the absence of water, but its presence is as important as its being clean and pure. Many of us take this for granted, we do not realize how vital water is for our living. Only those who are deprived of such blessing knows its worth. There are still a number of areas in Pakistan where even pure drinking water is not available.
Interior Sindh and Interior Punjab are among those areas. The only source of water for them are streams or the river nearby which are unhygienic. It may seem fit for their everyday use but it is not ideal for drinking or cooking. Pure and clean drinking water is elementary for a healthy life.
Unfortunately, there is also lack of awareness of the hazards of consuming contaminated water. People in rural areas suffers at the hands of such ignorance. However, there is a remedy. It all starts with the basic step of spreading the importance of a safe drinkable water. If we can all volunteer a little bit and spread the word, it will change many lives. There are underprivileged people in every community, if we start educating them about the benefits of clean water it can go a long way. Teaching the laborers and house maids with practical demonstrations of maintaining personal hygiene will eventually help in creating a healthy environment as well
Secondly, installation of filtration plants in every rural community is necessary. There are various types of filtration plants. Either an electric filtration plants, which only works if there is electricity. Then there is the conventional method of filtering water through slow sand filtration mechanism. It can be installed using household mud pots and few stones. People can be taught the technicalities of installing and maintaining filtration plants so that they can replicate the process and pass on the knowledge too. It will help the locals in establishing filtrations plants on their own.
These steps can revitalize their life. If we all play our part a bit more responsibly, we can contribute in saving lives. It’s the basic right that each and every one of us deserves. Let’s work together in providing healthy and safe water to everyone.
